Dr. Weller is by far the most engaging and enthusiastic teacher I have had at Michigan. It is clear that he loves teaching Physics. In studio, he would always go to each group to check in with them and ask questions to confirm that we understood the content. He was always receptive to questions and was very easy to talk to. He responds very promptly outside of class and is very receptive to feedback. Especially when he taught online Physics 250 in the spring semester. He took feedback very seriously and changed class and grading so students would be more satisfied with the class. He worked very hard for each of his classes to confirm that he knew the material and could teach it properly. His enthusiasm made it much easier to pay attention and learn material. My first teaching experience was with Dr. Weller and he helped me understand how to teach students and tried to guide each of us. I have the utmost respect for him and I would recommend him to anyone taking Physics.
Dr. Weller is hands down one of the best professors I’ve had at the University of Michigan. With so many pre-med students and such large course sizes, it can be hard to feel like you get individualized attention, but Dr. Weller truly changed that experience. He is kind, energetic, funny, and genuinely personable, which made the class environment engaging and supportive.
I’m not typically a student who attends optional sessions, but because of how effective he was as an instructor, I didn’t miss a single optional Physics workshop. I also attended nearly all of his office hours and exam review sessions. His teaching and support were a huge reason I was able to finish Physics 250 with an A after earning a B+ in Physics 150.
I truly couldn’t recommend Dr. Weller more highly.
I took Physics 150 with Dr. Weller and he exceeded my expectations for the course. Although I found the content itself to be hard, Dr. Weller was always so well spoken and clear on the subject that it wasn’t hard to understand. During lectures, he would always showcase live experiments and talk like a TV host, which made them much more entertaining and enjoyable. It is evident that he truly loves teaching and is very passionate about the subject. During office hours, he would often crack jokes and lighten the mood, which I believe is very valuable.
This was one of the first STEM classes I took at UofM and it has truly been an unforgettable experience. I genuinely felt like Dr. Weller alongside his GSIs and TAs wanted me to succeed in the class, and I believe my peers agree. There were always plentiful resources and practice problems to prepare us for the upcoming exams. Moreover, Dr. Weller is extremely fast when it comes to responding to emails/questions, 10/10!
Dr. Weller has been my favorite professor at Michigan. He truly cares about his students success and I felt extremely comfortable always asking him questions or meeting with him. He shows so much enthusiasm teaching, and it kept me very engaged even in morning classes. Even after three hour review sessions, he would stay late past 9 pm to help me. If you can take physics with him I highly recommend it.
Dr. Weller was one of the most impactful instructors I had during my time at the University of Michigan. Physics 250 was structured around short lecture videos, which could have easily made the material feel disconnected, but Dr. Weller made a tremendous effort to ensure students truly understood the underlying concepts. Through the studio workshops and individual discussions, he consistently took the time to break down difficult topics in ways that emphasized intuition and physical reasoning rather than simply applying formulas.
I attended the studio sessions regularly and often asked questions when I encountered challenging topics, particularly during the waves and optics units. Dr. Weller was always patient and approachable, and he went out of his way to meet with me outside of class to walk through difficult problems step by step. His explanations helped me see connections in the material that I had not recognized before, which significantly strengthened my understanding.
What stood out most about Dr. Weller was his genuine investment in student learning. He made himself available to help students succeed, even when it required extra time and effort on his part. With his guidance, I was able to deepen my conceptual understanding of the material and finished the course with a strong grasp of topics that initially felt very challenging.
I would highly recommend Dr. Weller to any student looking for an instructor who is not only knowledgeable but also deeply committed to helping students truly understand physics.
Dr. Weller was one of the best instructors I had at Michigan. Physics can be a difficult subject, but he had an incredible way of making complex topics more accessible and understandable. During studio sessions, he made sure we truly understood the reasoning behind the problems and how to solve them rather than just memorizing formulas. He regularly checked in with each group to make sure everyone was on the right track and was always approachable when we had questions.
During lectures, he explained topics with so much enthusiasm that the class was much more engaging and enjoyable. His passion for teaching made students care more about the material and motivated us to put in the effort to truly understand it. He was also very open to student feedback and made it clear that their input mattered. When students shared concerns about the class or grading, he took those comments seriously and worked to adjust things so the course would be more fair and helpful for learning. It was clear that he genuinely cared about making sure every student felt heard and had the opportunity to succeed. I would highly recommend any course with Dr. Weller.
Dr. Weller is one of the best and most impactful instructors I have had at the University of Michigan [Physics 250, Fall of 2024]. From the very first lecture, it was clear that he genuinely cares about his students and applying the concepts to real-world applications. His ability to connect concepts feels natural and relevant, regardless of your major or career path.
Dr. Weller is also just a wonderful person to learn from. He is warm, approachable, and genuinely interested in his students as whole people. We talk about goals, activities outside the classroom, and our shared love for coffee. His office hours never felt like an obligation. Nevertheless, I ended up there week after week. They were like the kind of conversations you walk away from feeling rejuvinated and inspired. Dr. Weller does absolutely everything in his power to set every single one of his students up for success. His positive energy and enthusiasm for physics are contagious. If you are looking for an instructor who will challenge you, support you, and make you actually care about what you are learning, this is your guy.
Dr. Weller is most definitely one of the most engaging professors I have had at the University of Michigan. Throughout his class, he consistently brought enthusiasm and energy to every lecture, making even the most difficult concepts in Physics 150 feel approachable and interesting. Although the course itself was challenging, his teaching style made it much more manageable, as he was always intentional about ensuring that all students were supported and able to follow along.
What stood out most to me was how much he genuinely cared about his students. He created an environment where asking questions was encouraged, and he made himself available both during and outside of class to help us succeed. During a time when I was personally struggling with both coursework and outside responsibilities, he took the time to support and encourage me, which had a meaningful impact on my ability to regain confidence and perform well in the class.
Dr. Weller has been one of the best professors I have had the opportunity to learn under as a student at my university. His instruction has really helped me pass the classes that I’ve taken with him, and I believe that without his instruction I would not have passed or gotten a good grade in the class that I did. The way he teaches and the way he interacts with students, in my opinion, is immaculate, and it shows that he really cares about teaching and that physics is his passion. I’m glad to have been a student under Dr. Weller, and I hope to work with him again in the future.
As someone who has had the honor of working with Dr. Weller for over a year, he is just as spectacular as a mentor as he is a teacher. He motivates me to find ways to be a pioneer in my field whilst spreading joy to as many students as possible. He takes the time to work with students, meeting them where they are and going from there. Working with Dr. Weller was revolutionary to see how students can succeed when their skills are emphasized and built off of. Dr. Weller treats me as a friend above anything, meeting me with respect and admiration just as I have for him.
Wherever he goes, ovation awaits. I have faith that this is no coincidence. Dr. Weller is someone I can learn a lot from, and someone I hope students can interact with in the future.
Dr. Weller is one of the most engaging and passionate professors on campus. I had the honor of working with Dr. Weller for over three semesters, and throughout that time, he was not only a mentor but a friend. Working with him has allowed me to see what effective teaching is. He takes time to break down complex topics into simple parts and is always there to help confused students.
Dr. Weller is an inspiration to not only me, but for other students. His commitment to teaching and being there for students is something that is very admirable. Dr. Weller is definitely one of the best professors to have, and I hope many students will have the opportunity to learn from him.
Dr. Weller is an outstanding physics instructor who turns a challenging subject like Physics 250 into clear, engaging, and meaningful. He has genuine care for student learning and is very helpful. He has a remarkable ability to break down complex physics concepts into smaller topics, helping students beyond memorization to real understanding. In studio sessions, he actively engages with every group, checks understanding in real time, and ensures students are never left behind. During Physics 250 workshops, office hours, and study sessions he gave students so many opportunities to ask questions. This was one of the reasons why I felt that Physics 250 was one of the most open and inviting classes I had ever been in.
What stood out to me the most was how Dr. Weller always stayed positive and looked to give students the best chance possible to grow as a person and succeed. Also in working with him outside the classroom, I noticed he went out of his way to provide the most fair, efficient, and comfortable environment for students during proctoring sessions.
Dr. Weller is a unique lecturer in the physics department in the best way. I had an opportunity to work for him as an LA. Talking to the students he taught, the resounding feedback was that Dr. Weller cares and makes physics fun. The students I heard from remarked about how easy-going yet learning-focused Dr. Weller is, and how that becomes contagious. As someone who worked under him, he was a consistent, cheerful, gentle and committed supervisor. He was routinely checking in on us LAs to make sure we had everything we needed and felt equipped to teach the physics material.
Dr. Weller stands out as one of the most genuinely effective educators I’ve encountered at Michigan. I had the unique experience of learning from him in two different settings — first in Physics 150 where he led discussion sections, and later in Physics 250 as the lecturer — and his ability to make difficult concepts feel approachable was consistent across both. What struck me most wasn’t just his enthusiasm, but his calm, measured way of breaking things down that made even the most intimidating topics feel manageable. Physics became something I actually looked forward to, which I genuinely did not expect. What’s remarkable is that this care translated equally whether in a packed lecture hall or an online section where we never met face to face, as he brought the same energy and investment to every single student regardless of the setting. Dr. Weller has a rare ability to make a large course feel personal, and that made all the difference.
Fantastic professor, so understanding and will walk you step by step through any problem. Such a funny and chill guy as well, he makes the learning environment in stem classes feel less robotic and more personal. Not only is he deeply passionate about the subject of physics itself, he also is equally as invested in the act of teaching others. Many professors forget that teaching is an art itself, yet Dr. Weller has mastered it and makes learning such a hard subject feel doable.
Dr. Weller is one of the encouraging yet understanding professors I’ve had at Michigan. Not only is he incredibly kind and knowledgable, he was also aware that many students did not share this same foundation. He was always understanding and loved to answer questions from students no matter how obvious or how difficult, and I really admire the passion that he has for physics and teaching that to the next generation. I had the privilege of having him for both Physics 150 and 250 and I think that anyone who has him in the future years to come is incredibly lucky to do so, he makes learning such a hard subject seem (almost) easy.
Dr. Weller is one of the best core science professors I have had at the University of Michigan, bar none. For context, I took Physics 150 with him in Winter 2026. His explanations, enthusiasm, and ability to break down complex problems into much easier portions were critical to my learning during my time in his class. I truly think he is essential if you are planning to take any of the physics courses at Michigan, especially if you are an aspiring pre-health student, so please do yourself a favor and try to schedule him if possible. Also, try to go to office hours as much as you can and make sure to constantly engage with the material he provides! Dr. Weller sets you up for success, but you need to put in the work for it to matter.
